Defending champion Capistrano Valley High School, with forward Scott McCorkle and guard Chris Kostoff, is the top-seeded team in the Servite summer basketball tournament July 13-16.

The 16-team tournament includes two defending Southern Section champions, 5-AA division champion Long Beach Millikan and 5-A champion Capistrano Valley.

The tournament also features three of Southern California’s top centers: Cherokee Parks of Marina, Ryan Jamison of Loyola and Rob Conlisk of Los Alamitos. Other top players include Willie McGinest of Long Beach Poly, Keith Walker of Brea-Olinda, Bill Martineau of Edison, Cleveland Jackson of St. Monica and Reggie Garey of Mater Dei.

First-round games will be played Thursday and Friday with the championship game scheduled for 6 p.m. July 16. The first-round pairings:

Thursday: 3:30 p.m.--Loyola vs. West Covina; 5--Rolling Hills vs. Long Beach Poly; 6:30--Edison vs. Brea-Olinda; 8--St. Monica vs. Mater Dei.

July 14: 9 a.m.--Marina vs. Los Alamitos; 10:30--Lakewood vs. Capistrano Valley; noon--Servite vs. Western; 1:30--Woodbridge vs. Millikan.

Amerige Park in Anaheim, which has been under renovation for a year, will be reopened July 15 with ceremony that will rename the park after former Fullerton Mayor Duane Winters.

The facility, which has had more than $1.4 million in renovations, will be able to serve as a baseball field or two soccer fields.
