A 39-year-old Newhall man was sentenced to four years in prison Monday for causing a traffic accident while drunk that killed another man.
John Wayne Arman pleaded guilty at a previous hearing in Van Nuys Superior Court to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in connection with the Sept. 16, 1988, accident.
In exchange for Arman’s plea, prosecutors agreed not to seek more than four years in prison.
Arman, who has no prior convictions, was driving northbound on San Fernando Road when his pickup ran a red light and collided with a car driven by David Eugene Eagleton, 65, of Sylmar, authorities said.
Eagleton died four days later of injuries suffered in the crash.
