What a commentary on humankind amid the triumph of Neptune. Here is puny, mortal man, blessed with the power of rational thought, able to project a piece of sensitive hardware into the edge of the solar system and beyond, sending home the secrets of the universe. Yet even while the scientists at Pasadena are rightfully exulting in their incredible achievements, many thousands of their peers are toiling in underground and heavily guarded laboratories creating deadly instruments of destruction that are designed to put an end to human life. What a contrast. Isaac Newton would be proud of the one, saddened by the other.
