Agriculture Enrollments Higher: An increasing number of high school students are taking agriculture-related courses, a first since the boom days of the 1970s, and about 70% of those students live in urban areas. James W. Legacy, professor of agriculture education at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, said 1988-89 is the first time since the late 1970s that the trend in declining enrollments in agriculture had been reversed. His conclusions were based on a survey of 310 Illinois high schools. Legacy said 11,811 high school students took agriculture-related courses in 1988-89, up 2% from the previous year.
