Roundup : Capistrano Valley Wins Water Polo Tournament

Senior driver Paul Felton’s six goals led Capistrano Valley to a 19-6 championship-game victory over Alhambra at the La Serna water polo tournament Saturday.
Capistrano Valley (7-0) also was led by junior driver Nick Kittredge, who had four goals, and Kevin McCalley, who had three. Goalie Chris Bowman had nine saves.
In its semifinal game, Capistrano Valley defeated Rowland, 16-6. Felton and Kittredge each had four goals in that game.
At the Millikan water polo tournament:
Marina 7, Harvard 6--Bob Haefner, Chad Roberts and Jason Cox scored two goals each to lead Marina (5-0) to victory in the championship game at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach. Marina led, 4-3, after three quarters and moved out a 7-4 lead before Harvard staged its comeback, which fell short. Marina is third-ranked in the 3-A coaches’ poll and Harvard is No. 4 in the 4-A poll. Goalie Kevin Dillenbeck had 13 saves and six steals.
In its semifinal game, Marina defeated Villa Park, 9-8 in sudden-death overtime. Marina was down, 8-6, with 3:05 remaining in the match. Cliff Wagner scored with 2:41 to pull to within one. Sebastian Jacobs scored with 15 seconds remaining in a man-up situation to send it to overtime, when Cox scored at the 1:50 mark for the victory.
In the third-place game, Villa Park defeated Palos Verdes, 11-9. Junior driver Eric Johnson led Villa Park with four goals, and senior driver Gary Larson and senior setter Gavin Arroyo each added three. Villa Park (5-1) led, 6-3, at halftime and 8-5 after three quarters.
At the Orange County volleyball tournament:
Junior middle blocker Michelle Mauney had averaged over seven kills per game to lead El Toro to an 8-0 record in pool play at Westminster. El Toro advances as the second-seeded team to next weekend’s playoff round.
Laguna Beach, which was 6-0 in pool play, is the top-seeded team. Fountain Valley, which went 8-0, is the third seed. El Toro, Laguna Beach and Fountain Valley were the only three teams to go undefeated in pool play.
At the Tiger national volleyball tournament at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Ill.:
Corona del Mar 2, Columbia Heights (Minn.) 0--In a two-game format, Corona del Mar won 15-6, 15-11 to win the championship. Corona del Mar’s Danielle Everett was named most valuable player of the tournament and had a match-high 11 kills in the final. Krista Hartling had seven kills and was named to the All-tournament team. Corona del Mar (1-0) was 5-0 in the tournament.
