Four men thought to be members of an Asian organized crime network, the United Bamboo Gang, were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of trying to extort $200,000 from a Paramount businessman, authorities said.
The arrests came after sheriff’s deputies used search warrants to enter five San Gabriel Valley locations, Deputy Dean Scoville said.
At four residences and one nightclub, deputies seized handguns, assault rifles and one “Street Sweeper” semiautomatic shotgun.
Sheriff’s deputies and Los Angeles and Monterey Park police began investigating reports of attempted extortion about a week ago, Scoville said.
Deputies did not release the name of the victim or how he was being extorted.
The four men arrested were identified as Khu Ca Ha, 47, of Rosemead; Hsiu Chun Huang, 35, of Hacienda Heights; Huy Cham Tran, 24, of Houston, and Billy Chi Kang Yang, 40, of Alhambra.
