“Poodle Springs,” the Philip Marlowe detective novel by Raymond Chandler and Robert B. Parker, has been acquired by Universal Pictures and will be turned into a film by Sydney Pollack and Jon Avnet. Michael Blake will write the screenplay. Chandler had completed only four chapters of “Springs” before he died in 1959, but under an agreement with the Chandler estate, Parker, a best-selling mystery novelist for the Spenser private eye stories, recently completed the work.
