Moody’s Investors Service has lowered American Medical International’s credit rating in light of an expected buyout of the firm to the speculative grade of BA3 from BAA2 . . . International Business Machines and Motorola signed an agreement for Motorola to participate in an IBM research and development effort on the use of X-rays in producing semiconductors . . . El Monte-based Birtcher Corp. said it signed a definitive agreement with C. R. Bard Inc. to purchase its Denver-based Bard/EMS electrosurgery division for about $11 million in cash.
