A moving-van fire killed a 31-year-old San Diego man, officials said.
The body of employee Robert William Knauer was discovered by firefighters, who extinguished the 10:12 p.m. fire Sunday in the back of a Starving Students Movers truck, parked in the 5100 block of Viewridge Court, a San Diego police spokesman said.
Friends of the victim said Knauer climbed into the back of the truck and fell asleep while smoking a cigarette, spokesman Dave Cohen said.
Fire investigators said the fire was accidental and started when a smoldering cigarette ignited.
