STATE : Beverly Hills Teachers Settle Strike, OK 12% 2-Year Raise

After more than five hours of rancorous debate, Beverly Hills teachers today voted 150 to 133 to accept a salary offer guaranteeing a 12% raise over two years, ending a 13-day strike against the affluent school system.

The settlement offered by the Beverly Hills Unified School District calls for an increase of 5% this year and 7% in 1990-91. It also provides a 2% one-time bonus to be paid out of funds pledged by local parents, who have raised nearly $500,000 since last week.

An additional 1% will be built into the teachers’ permanent salary schedule in 1990-91 if Beverly Hills voters approve a special parcel tax to be placed on the June, 1990, ballot by the school district.
