The premise of Boyer’s otherwise strong profile of Steve Garvey is based on the kind of error that only a non-baseball fan could make.
Boyer makes much of Garvey’s baseball swing and of his “control.” Fact is, anybody who watched the Garv during his career can attest to the observation that Garvey always had a weakness for outside balls in the dirt. Which, comes to think of it, is exactly where he ended up.
