Transamerica Earnings Up 15% for 3rd Quarter

Transamerica Insurance Group in Woodland Hills said its earnings for the third quarter, which ended Sept. 30, increased 15% to $18 million from $15 million a year ago. Transamerica said its revenues increased 4% to $482 million from $462 million a year earlier.
The insurance group also said its earnings for the nine months that ended Sept. 30 fell 46% to $57 million from $104 million a year ago, but the earlier figure was boosted $44 million by a one-time accounting change. The insurance company’s revenues were up 5% to $1.41 billion from $1.35 billion for the same period in 1988.
Transamerica Insurance is the primary property-casualty insurance subsidiary of Transamerica Corp., which is based in San Francisco.
