From Times staff and wire service reports
The House approved a bill that would expand Everglades National Park in Florida by 110,000 acres to protect it from encroaching commercial development. The bill, passed on voice vote and sent to the Senate, would allow the Interior Department to acquire lands and interest in land through donation, purchase or exchange. The addition would amount to about 7.9% of the park’s current 1,398,937 acres. The measure also would prohibit most use of airboats in the park.
