VIENNA — The Austrian Swimming Federation has confirmed reports that it will sign on top Soviet swimming coach Sergei Waizechovski.
“Waizechovski will sign a contract to coach our swimmers until after the 1992 (Barcelona) Olympics,” Thomas Gangel, general secretary of the Austrian Swimming Federation, told the Associated Press today.
He said Waizechovski would begin Dec. 1 and the contract was to be signed within the next two weeks.
“We wanted to make an official announcement Dec. 1, but I can confirm that he will come,” Gangel said.
“He has given us a guarantee that we will have four swimmers in ‘A’ finals at the next Olympics,” Gangel said.
