Camarillo’s Bid for Cross-Country 4-A Title Begins

Camarillo, Hart and Agoura highs--ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section 4-A, 3-A and 2-A--will open their bids for boys’ cross-country titles in the division preliminaries today at Mt. San Antonio College.
The Scorpions are paced by a senior foursome of Abe Valdez (15 minutes, 14 seconds on Mt. SAC’s three-mile course), Shawn Goetzinger (15:26), Derek Kite (15:33) and Chad Malesich (15:59).
Hart is led by senior Steve Lepken (15:54) and junior Billy Dixon (15:59). Senior Bryan Dameworth (14:41) of Agoura will battle Arroyo Grande’s Luis Quintana (14:45) for the individual title.
Canyon, ranked No. 2 in the 4-A, will push Camarillo. Dave Hartman (15:15) leads the Cowboys.
The Agoura girls’ team, led by junior Deena Drossin, is seeking its third consecutive 2-A title.
