Richard J. Vorisek, 71; Nominated for Academy Award for Sound in ‘Reds’

Richard J. Vorisek, who was nominated for an Academy Award for sound direction for the 1981 movie “Reds,” has died after a long illness. He was 71.
He died Tuesday at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Conn., where he had lived for 40 years.
Born Feb. 21, 1918, in New York City, Vorisek had worked in the film business for more than half a century and since 1973 had co-owned Transaudio Inc. of New York City.
Vorisek’s film credits included “Kramer vs. Kramer,” “The Untouchables” and “All that Jazz.” He had also worked on the classic 1950s CBS television segment “The Honeymooners,” which was then part of Jackie Gleason’s hourlong variety show.
Vorisek is survived by his wife, Margaret; a son; two daughters; four grandsons, and a brother.
