JERUSALEM — Israel sent army reinforcements into the occupied territories and closed Palestinian schools today to crush unrest marking the first anniversary of the Palestinian declaration of independence, security sources said.
They said the army was also sealing off the West Bank and Gaza Strip and placing Gaza’s eight refugee camps under curfew beginning Tuesday night. Arab sources reported 15 youths wounded by Israeli troops in the occupied territories today.
The underground leadership of the 23-month-old Palestinian uprising has called on residents of the occupied territories to hold mass rallies, display Palestinian flags and set off fireworks to mark the Nov. 15 anniversary.
