More than 40,000 Southern California Edison customers were without power for two hours Thursday and classes at Cal Poly were canceled all day after a tractor-trailer truck struck a power pole on Edison Avenue in Chino, damaging three main power transmission lines.
The power outage affected parts of Chino, Diamond Bar, Walnut and Pomona, including the entire Cal Poly Pomona campus. All university offices were closed Thursday, but normal operations were expected to resume today.
The truck hit the power pole after colliding with a vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign, authorities said.
