Noriega Comes From Behind to Win in Clay Court Final

University of San Diego’s Jose Luis Noriega rallied from a one-set deficit Sunday to win the DuPont National Intercollegiate Clay Court Championships in Hilton Head, S.C.
Noriega, seeded fourth, defeated No. 5 Steve Bryan of Texas, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, to win the second leg of the college grand slam, the only event played on clay. Noriega and Bryan are the sixth- and eighth-ranked players in the Volvo/Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Assn. poll.
HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL
The Poway and Torrey Pines High School volleyball teams have been seeded Nos. 2 and 5 respectively in Division I of the upcoming Southern California Regionals.
In Tuesday’s first round, Poway will play host to No. 7 Palisades, and Torrey Pines plays at No. 4 Royal (Simi Valley).
USDHS was seeded third in Division II and will play at No. 1 La Habra.
In Division III, section champion Francis Parker will be at Brentwood, the Southern Section champion.
