WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Herve Filion was named harness racing Driver of the Year for 1989, when he won a world-record 814 races and passed the 12,000 mark in victories.
It is the 10th time Filion has been honored by Harness Tracks of America, which has 43 members in the United States and Canada.
Filion got 92 points in voting results announced Wednesday, while John Campbell was second with 80 points and Richard Zeron third with 73.
Filion, 49, of Quebec, became the first driver in harness racing history to win 800 races in one year last Dec. 18 when he guided Winter D J to a two-length victory at Yonkers Raceway in New York.
