Gavaldon Pulls Upset

Angelica Gavaldon, a 16-year-old high school junior from Coronado, shocked seventh-seeded Hana Mandlikova, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1, today in the third round of the Australian Open.
Gavaldon, a two-time San Diego Section champion while at Our Lady of Peace, is ranked 190th in the world. Mandlikova is a two-time winner of the tournament.
