UCSD Wins, Plays Region Leader Tonight

Tom Shawcroft scored 14 points, and Tim Rapp added 12 to lead UC San Diego to an 81-60 nonconference victory over visiting UC Santa Cruz Friday night.
The Tritons (12-4 and ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division III West Region) will play host to Menlo College, the region’s top-ranked team, tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Santa Cruz’s Banana Slugs fell to 3-15.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Cal State San Bernardino won its 12th in row, defeating visiting UC San Diego, 86-79, in a Division III nonconference game.
Cari Young (22 points) and Lisa Beaver (17) led UCSD (9-6). Teri Walsh led San Bernardino (13-3) with 20. San Bernardino led by just 70-68 with 5:54 remaining but went on a 12-3 run over the next 4:40.
WOMEN’S GOLF
San Diego State finished fifth in the Yamaha Holiday Golf Tournament at Carlton Oaks Country Club in Santee. SDSU’s Joann Walker finished tied for eighth with a score of 156 after a 79 Friday.
Arizona State won the tournament, led by Brandie Burton and Amy Fruwirth, who tied for first at 148.
UCLA’s Christy Erb, who played in high school at USDHS, finished in a three-way tie for fifth with a score of 155.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Cal State Northridge rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat host San Diego State, 6-15, 15-17, 15-7, 15-13, 15-11, in the Aztecs’ season opener.
Neil Coffman had 30 kills for Northridge (1-1). Douglas Potter had 19 kills, and Mike Mattarocci.
