WORLD IN BRIEF : SOUTH AFRICA : Police block 1,000 in Cricket March

Police used batons, rubber bullets and tear gas to prevent 1,000 blacks from marching on a stadium in Bloemfontein to protest a boycott-breaking English cricket team’s match with a South African university team. Police said 45 were arrested. But another protest of the same match by 500 demonstrators, coordinated by black activists and tour organizers, went off without incident.
