Pershing Square Status

I very much appreciated Sam Hall Kaplan’s reference in his “Closing a Decade of Design: Some Hits and Misses” (Dec. 31) to the troubles of the Pershing Square redevelopment organization, and I wish that he would pursue it.
When I called them last year to ask why no progress had been made, I was angrily told that “people like you” had not supported or donated to the cause and that this was necessary because business did not want to fund it alone.
Well, we went to the competition exhibition, the final choice unveiling, signed the registers, and our address is on every architectural/preservationist mailing list in town, yet we never once were solicited or heard of any campaign. I think there is a scandal somewhere in all this, at the least a fiasco--all the more sad because of the stupidity that messed up Pershing Square in the first place.
