COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Flener Pitches Fullerton to 12-3 Victory

Huck Flener allowed three hits and had four strikeouts in seven innings to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 12-3 victory over U.S. International in a nonconference baseball game Friday at Titan Field.
Flener allowed a lead-off single then retired the next 16 batters he faced. The streak ended when Geoffrey Martinez hit a home run with one out in the sixth.
Paul Bunch had a two-run single, Phil Nevin and Domingo Mota had one-run singles, and Rich Gonzales and Mate Borgogno walked to force in runs as Fullerton scored eight times in the second inning. Borgogno added a solo home run in the third, and Trevor Rush had two hits and two RBIs for Fullerton.
In the Southern California College baseball tournament:
Southern California College 8, College of Idaho 2--Jim Dedrick (3-1) allowed five hits and had nine strikeouts for host SCC (6-3-1). Denny Berni had three hits, including a two-run home run in the third, and four RBIs. Paul Plyler added four hits for SCC.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Southern California College 104, Cal Lutheran 83--Terry Scruggs scored 30 points and Jeff Bickmore added 22 points and 11 rebounds for host SCC (22-8). Cal Lutheran is 5-21.
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s basketball:
Chapman 79, UC Riverside 61--Chapman clinched a spot in the four-team conference postseason tournament with the victory at home. The Panthers (18-8 overall, 6-5 in the conference) were led by Jackie Saunders, who had 22 points and 16 rebounds.
In the USTA men’s national indoor team tennis championship:
UC Irvine 5, Louisiana State 4--Irvine was down, 4-2, after the singles, but swept all three doubles matches to win at Louisville, Ky.
