Czechs Won’t Rely on Debt: Czechoslovakia will not overhaul its backward economy by loading itself down with debt, Czech statesman Alexander Dubcek told French business leaders in Paris. The sacrifices needed to modernize will be made by today’s Czechs, not future generations, Dubcek said at the end of a three-day diplomatic visit. During the visit, both sides called for closer political and diplomatic ties following the recent dramatic end of Communist rule in Prague. Dubcek, a former president, is now speaker of the Czechoslovak parliament.
