Faith Baptist, Ribet Academy to Meet in Regional

Faith Baptist High will try to extend its surprising season tonight when the Contenders meet Ribet Academy at La Canada High at 7:30 in the Division V semifinals of the Southern California regional basketball tournament.
With three sophomores and a junior in the lineup, the Contenders (20-10) struggled to a third-place finish in the Delphic League but stormed to the Southern Section 1-A Division title and a victory in the state playoffs Tuesday.
Sophomore guard Darren Wyre led the Contenders to a 67-52 win over Calipatria with 21 points. He made six of seven shots from the field, including all five of his three-point attempts.
Ribet Academy (26-2), working on a 20-game win streak, won the Southern Section Small Schools Division title before scoring a 95-57 win over Firebaugh of the Central Section on Tuesday. The Fighting Frogs averaged 89 points a game during the regular season and have exceeded the century mark four times.
Jacquin Moore averages 20 points and 8.5 rebounds for Ribet, and Jamal Duncan averages 17 points and nine assists. Jason Sanders averages 16.5 points, six rebounds and four assists.
