Ex-Officer Sues LAPD, Alleging Racial Bias

A black former police officer who was fired in 1987 filed suit in federal court in Los Angeles Wednesday, saying the city’s refusal to rehire him is a product of a policy of racial discrimination in the Police Department.
Lt. Ronald Williams was fired for lack of candor in a departmental investigation of alleged sexual misconduct. State courts have found that the dismissal was too severe a penalty, and three separate Superior Court orders were issued telling the department to reinstate the 20-year veteran.
