JERUSALEM — Fifty masked Palestinians stabbed and hacked to death an Arab official of the United Nations they suspected of helping Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, residents said today.
They said the activists killed Yasser Said Qazmouz, 33, Tuesday after breaking into his house in Nur Shams refugee camp where he was director of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency office.
His 70-year-old father and two brothers were seriously wounded in a struggle with the assailants, the residents said.
The Israeli army imposed a curfew on the camp of 6,000 residents.
The U.N. agency said it does not believe that Qazmouz’s work for the agency prompted the attack. Officials said there were no complaints against him in his eight years as camp services director.
