TOKYO — Stock prices on the Tokyo Stock Exchange fell today despite a turnaround on the foreign exchange market that saw the dollar lose nearly 2 yen for the first slide in 10 trading sessions.
The blue-chip Nikkei Average of 225 selected issues, which fell 562.39 points Wednesday, lost another 237.41 points to 31,026.16.
The broader-based Tokyo Stock Exchange Price Index of all major listed shares fell 20.00 points to 2,286.85 after tumbling 32.23 points Wednesday.
On the Tokyo Foreign Exchange the dollar fell 1.98 yen on widespread profit taking to close at 156.65 yen.
Rising interest rates have dampened investor interest in stocks, which continues to bleed the market, analysts said.
