COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress Gains Softball Victory Over OCC . . . Temporarily
- Share via
Cypress College was temporarily credited with an Orange Empire Conference softball victory over Orange Coast, when the Pirates had to forfeit Wednesday’s game at Cypress.
The score was tied, 1-1, in the 15th inning when Cypress Coach Brad Pickler protested a substitution by OCC. The substitution was ruled illegal and the Pirates were left with eight players, and unable to field a team.
OCC Coach Nick Trani protested the game because of the ruling.
“There’s a 90% chance it will be nothing but a suspended game,” Trani said. “It was getting dark and the umpires wanted to make a ruling. The umpire told me he had to check with the head official to make sure it was right.”
A ruling is expected today.
In other Orange Empire Conference softball games:
Golden West 6, Fullerton 1--Lisa Kaufman (14-5) pitched an eight-hitter and hit a home run to lead visiting Golden West (23-11, 5-4).
