California IN BRIEF : LAKE ELSINORE : Congress Candidate Pearson, 64, Dies

Johnny Pearson, a candidate for Congress from Lake Elsinore, has died at age 64 in a Perris hospital. Pearson, a veteran of three wars, was competing against actor Ralph Waite for the Democratic nomination in the 37th Congressional District, which covers nearly all of Riverside County. Pearson, who won the nomination but lost to Rep. Al McCandless (R-La Quinta) in 1988, had been hospitalized since suffering a stroke March 21. He is survived by six children.
