COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Washington Leads CLU to Doubleheader Sweep

Peter Washington was four for five with two home runs and three runs batted in as Cal Lutheran beat host Occidental, 13-2, to sweep a nonconference doubleheader Saturday.
In the first game, Dan Weiss’ fourth-inning double scored two runs in the Kingsmen’s 3-1 win.
Kevin O’Neill (2-2), a left-hander, limited Occidental to Bart Dalton’s two singles and Mark Harris’ double in the opener.
Tim Lewis was three for four with a double and three runs batted in and scored three runs for Cal Lutheran (18-10) in the nightcap. Dean Martinez (3-0), Mike Rooney and Chris Matkin combined to allow only six Occidental hits. Occidental is 13-8-1.
In other baseball games:
Cuesta 4, Pierce 2--Randy Dorsey was three for four, hitting the game-winning single in the sixth for host Cuesta (17-10-2) in a Western State Conference game.
Pat Fairly homered for Pierce.
The Master’s 10, Biola 5--Sophomore Andy Martin was four for five with three RBIs and three runs scored to lead Master’s (18-15, 8-7) in an NAIA District 3 game at Biola.
Danny Bevins added three hits and one RBI and Mark MacArthur had two hits and four RBIs.
Valley 16, Santa Monica 13--Jeff Greenamyer was four for four with three RBIs, a run scored and two stolen bases to lead host Valley (11-16-2, 8-7) to a WSC victory.
The teams used 12 pitchers and rapped 28 hits. Mark Cavarretta had two hits, scored three runs and had an RBI for Valley.
SOFTBALL
Cal Lutheran 8-4, Christ College 0-0--Visiting Cal Lutheran clinched the NAIA District 3 regular-season title in the second game as Kim White was three for four with an RBI and Leslie Stevens pitched a three-hitter. The Regals took their 12th consecutive District 3 victory.
In the opener, right-hander DeeAndra Pilkington gave up only two hits, struck out four and walked none in recording her seventh consecutive shutout in District 3 play.
Cal Lutheran is 24-9-2, 13-1.
Cal State Northridge 4, UC San Diego 0--Heather Lindstrom (8-4) scattered three hits, struck out seven and walked one in Northridge’s second victory in the Cal State Hayward Pioneer Classic. Northridge defeated St. Mary’s, 9-1, earlier Saturday.
