COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fresno State Cruises Past UC Irvine, 5-1

Ranbir Grewal struck out eight to lead Fresno State to a 5-1 Big West Conference baseball victory over visiting UC Irvine Sunday.
The Anteaters struck out 34 times in the three-game series, which Fresno State swept. Irvine committed eight errors, allowing four unearned runs.
The only earned run by the Bulldogs (26-11, 6-0) came in the fourth inning on Chris Falco’s solo home run.
Shelby Niss’ RBI single, which scored Chris Gallego, cut Fresno State’s lead to 2-1 in the fourth.
Chris Huber (5-2) took the loss for Irvine (23-16, 1-5), despite allowing only one earned run in seven innings. He walked one and struck out one.
In the Cal State Hayward Softball Tournament quarterfinals:
Cal State Northridge 3, Chapman 1--Christy Wurster had three singles and Rose Connor had two hits, including an RBI double in the sixth for Chapman (33-13). Northridge scored three in the fifth, capitalizing on a double, a walk and three consecutive singles.
