‘Independence’ Not Free to Open: A temporary restraining order was issued Wednesday against the Gnu Theater’s unauthorized production of Lee Blessing’s play “Independence,” which had been scheduled to open tonight in North Hollywood. The order, by Los Angeles County Supervisor Court Judge Thomas C. Murphy, had been sought by the producers of an authorized staging of the same play, scheduled to open Friday at the Burbank Theater Guild. A hearing on a permanent injunction will be held Wednesday.
