California IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Federal Grand Jury Subpoenas Montoya

Former state Sen. Joseph B. Montoya, who was sentenced last week to 6 1/2 years in prison for political corruption, has been subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury investigating similar crimes. Montoya received a subpoena shortly after he was sentenced Thursday, according to unnamed sources cited in the San Francisco Chronicle. Montoya, who said he plans to appeal his conviction, is scheduled to begin his sentence June 29 at the low-security federal prison in Lompoc.
