VALLEY ROUNDUP : Kirshbaum’s 2-Hitter Leads Birmingham

Birmingham High’s Noah Kirshbaum, making his second start of the season, tossed a two-hitter to lead the Braves to a 7-4 win over Monroe in a Mid-Valley League game at Birmingham on Monday.
Kirshbaum, who beat Granada Hills in his only other start, allowed two first-inning singles, no earned runs and struck out seven. He walked six.
Mike Malkin and Ruben Flores had two hits each for Birmingham (18-5-1, 12-4 in league play), which has won 13 in a row. Monroe, the second-place team in the Mid-Valley League, fell to 9-10, 7-9.
In other baseball games:
Grant 2, North Hollywood 0--Holvik Castro needed just 88 pitches in a four-hit East Valley League win at Grant.
Castro struck out seven and walked two for Grant (6-17, 4-12). Sammy Ciaramilaro surrendered five hits in taking the loss for North Hollywood (8-11, 6-10).
Poly 12, Sylmar 1--Junior right-hander Raul Torres (5-1) threw a four-hitter, struck out three and walked one to lead Poly (21-3, 16-0) to an East Valley League win at home.
Roy Lozano contributed two doubles--including a two-run shot--and sophomore Steve Chavez had a two-run single to lead Poly.
Gonzalo Hernandez took the loss for Sylmar (16-8, 10-6).
Reseda 12, Van Nuys 1--Winning pitcher Robert Reynoso and Louis Vanacore homered, and Joe Tushnet went four for four as host Reseda (5-11, 5-14) rolled to a Mid-Valley League win.
Reynoso, who went two for three, allowed seven hits. Tony Gonzalez (1-6) took the loss for Van Nuys (4-12, 4-12).
COLLEGE BASEBALL
The Master’s 10, Southern Cal College 6--The Master’s advanced to the NAIA District 3 Regionals at Azusa Pacific on Thursday with a wild-card playoff victory at Southern Cal College. Master’s (26-20) opens the regional with No. 1-seeded Azusa Pacific.
HIGH SCHOOL GOLF
Southern Section Central Regional--Hart, with a five-man total of 376, was one of three schools in the 30-team field at Montebello Country Club to advance to the Southern Section final next week.
Led by junior Mike Miller’s even-par 71, Hart advanced to the finals at Canyon Country Club in Palm Springs.
Southern Section Northern Regional--At Olivas Park Golf Course, Westlake (371), Sunny Hills (371) and Newbury Park (373) all advanced to the Southern Section finals. Westlake was led by Charlie Wi’s two-under 70.
SOFTBALL
Alemany 5, Louisville 1--Krista Gomez was four for four and drove in three runs to lead Alemany in a San Fernando Valley League game at Louisville. Stacy Hart (7-2) tossed a one-hitter and struck out five for Alemany (17-5, 7-2).
Notre Dame 12, St. Genevieve 1--Simona Errico hit a grand slam for host Notre Dame (15-9, 7-1) to support sophomore Araceli Romero, who was making her first varsity start in the San Fernando Valley League game.
