Estel Johnson of Whittier, a long-time Los Angeles high school track and field coach, died Sunday from complications of diabetes. He was 77.
Johnson coached at Jefferson High School for 31 years and at Grant for 15 years. He retired in 1975 when he learned he had diabetes.
A memorial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Latter Day Saints, 15265 Mulberry Dr., Whittier.
