Blue Line Opens for Los Angeles Area Commuters

Why is it that I am experiencing a perverse pleasure when I hear about the costly and disruptive fire in the Metro Rail tunnel? Could it be that only a bunch of buffoons could have dreamed up an idea as foolish as building a subway system underneath a city that sits on top of earthquake faults and pockets of natural gas.
And how embarrassing to think that it has already cost twice as much money to build one-quarter of the distance as the Blue Line trolley to Long Beach.
I can only hope that one serious mishap after another will continue to beset Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley’s boondoggle until pressure will be so great that the project will be abandoned. Can anyone imagine what it would be like to be caught in the subway in a major earthquake?
