NEW YORK — Golf balls have gotten more expensive over the years. Particularly the feather-filled kinds.
Christie’s auctioned off just such a variety, made by Allan Robertson of St. Andrews circa 1840, to an English collector for $25,000. The unused 19th-Century golf ball was offered in the international auction firm’s sale of early golf equipment and memorabilia at St. Andrew’s golf course in Scotland during the British Open.
