Datron Systems Profit for Quarter Falls 80%

Datron Systems Inc., a Simi Valley manufacturer of satellite and radio communications equipment, said its fiscal first-quarter profit tumbled 80% from a year earlier as revenue fell 21%.
In the quarter that ended June 30, Datron’s net income fell to $170,000 from $866,000 a year earlier, and its revenue dropped to $8.39 million from $10.6 million. Datron blamed the declines on lower profit margins on certain fixed-price contracts and “an unexpected shortfall” in shipments of radio products.
After the results were announced last week, Datron’s stock plunged $1 a share, to a 52-week low of $6.75, in over-the-counter trading. The stock closed Monday at $7 a share.
