Ousted School Chief’s Problem--She Was Guilty of Excellence
- Share via
I have noticed the disruptive strategies used by teachers’ unions in the Huntington Beach City school districts.
I was surprised in April when the school board, after months of telling the community it wanted a multiyear contract to get the district focused on education, caved in and settled for a one-year contract. And it did this just days before the district and teachers’ union were to present their issues to the state fact-finder.
We heard rumors that the school board caved in because the teachers threatened to support new candidates for the board in November unless the incumbents gave them what they wanted in negotiations. Although to me the rumor held a ring of truth, I chose to let it be and decided we all needed to move forward.
The latest news that three of the district’s most dedicated and highly effective administrators are leaving I cannot let go of. Hiring and retaining quality people are important duties of a school board.
