DETROIT — Bernie Federko, the 16th-highest scorer in NHL history, has announced his retirement after 14 seasons.
Federko, a 34-year-old center who was a free agent, played 13 seasons with St. Louis before being traded to Detroit last summer in a four-player trade that sent Adam Oates and Paul MacLean to the Blues. Federko was Detroit’s third-leading scorer with 57 points while Oates had 102.
