ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Miss America organization ordered Texas pageant officials to investigate allegations that their longtime chief executive has a history of making lewd remarks to contestants.
Leonard Horn, the pageant’s executive director, ordered the Miss Texas Scholarship Pageant to investigate B. Don Magness after Life magazine quoted Magness as yelling, “Come on in, sluts!” to a group of Miss Texas contestants, and with making other sexually pointed comments.
Magness did not return telephone calls to his office earlier this week and again today. He told the magazine that he made sexual comments only in jest.
Texas has the largest pageant franchise in the country. The national Miss America pageant will be televised Sept. 8.
