Chiropractor Begins Term for Billing Scam

A Los Angeles chiropractor who pleaded no contest to 14 felony and tax fraud charges in a phony billing scheme that bilked insurance companies out of more than $400,000 has begun serving a five-year prison sentence.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Albert MacKenzie said Theodore Roosevelt Wyatt conspired with some of his patients over a three-year period to submit fraudulent bills to their insurance companies, then divided the proceeds with them.
More than 200 patients helped Wyatt prepare false insurance claims for non-existent treatment, investigators said. Wyatt paid some his patients $50 finders fees to recruit others for the scheme.
