Santa Monica : Cultural Arts Chief Named

Maria Luisa de Herrera, director of visual art for both the city and county of Santa Barbara, has been hired as Santa Monica’s cultural arts administrator.
Barbara Franklin-Moran, the city’s director of cultural and recreational services, said De Herrera was selected from among 100 candidates. De Herrera starts her new position on Sept. 4, and will be paid between $46,000 and $57,000 annually.
“She’s a major player in the arts associations throughout the state,” Franklin-Moran said of De Herrera.
De Herrera, 36, is working toward a master’s degree in art history at UCLA. Prior to taking the Santa Barbara job, she was a curatorial assistant with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
De Herrera replaces Henry Korn, who left the position in April to take a similar job in Irvine.
