THE SIDELINES : Bears Rookie Off Drug Probation

HOUSTON — A judge released Chicago Bears rookie running back Johnny Bailey from the final 10 months of his probation today in a brief courtroom appearance.
Bailey, the Bears’ ninth-round draft pick from Texas A&I;, was placed on probation in 1986 after an arrest for possession of a controlled substance.
He faced possible arrest earlier this month for failure to pay about $1,400 in probation fines until his attorney paid the fines Aug. 22.
His probation was supposed to extend through June.
