Police Free 2 Girls; 2 Kidnap Suspects Held

A 16-year-old mentally disabled girl was reunited with her mother Tuesday, less than 24 hours after she and a 12-year-old friend disappeared during a church outing in a South Gate park, police said.
A television crew spotted the girls and their alleged abductors Tuesday afternoon, said Sgt. Russ Galbreath.
Police freed the girls and arrested the two men. Felipe Perez, 18, and Alfredo Torres, 23, were being held at the South Gate Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, booked on suspicion of kidnaping, robbery and auto theft, police said.
The mother of the 16-year-old told police that she saw two men pushing the girls inside a car Monday evening. After questioning the girls, police said that they “voluntarily” agreed to go for a ride. Both men, however, allegedly sexually assaulted the girls, Galbreath said.
