A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of setting the Aug. 11 fire that burned down the Maple Lanes Bowling Alley, causing an estimated $500,000 in damage.
Garden Grove Fire Department officials on Wednesday said the youth, who was arrested Tuesday, is a city resident and former employee of the bowling alley.
Fire officials said the arrest of the youth, whose name was not being released because he is a minor, culminated a month of investigation by Garden Grove police and the Fire Department.
The fire, which broke out at 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 11, gutted the bowling alley. No one was injured in the blaze.
According to fire officials, the youth came to police headquarters on Tuesday for questioning about the fire and was arrested after the session. He was being held at the county’s Juvenile Hall.
