Seven duffel bags containing 630 pounds of marijuana were discovered lying on the ground just inside the U.S. border Thursday, authorities reported.
The marijuana, valued at $500,000, was found at 1 a.m. by a Border Patrol agent a few yards north of the border fence on Otay Mesa, said Ted Swofford, spokesman for the U.S. Border Patrol in San Diego.
The canvas bags, each weighing almost 100 pounds, had apparently been dragged across the border and left for a pickup, Swofford said. No suspects were found.
The seizure brings this weeks’s marijuana haul by border agents to more than 1,000 pounds, he said.
